Spray Coating Acrylic Surfaces
Spray Coating Acrylic Surfaces – Ultrasonic Coating – Cheersonic
Acrylic, known for its lightweight, excellent transparency, and easy processability, is widely used in commercial display, electronic displays, automotive interiors, and other fields. However, its inherent low surface hardness and poor scratch resistance limit its application in high-demand scenarios. Ultrasonic spray coating technology has emerged as an optimal solution for acrylic surface modification, effectively enhancing its functional performance while retaining its inherent advantages.
The core advantage of ultrasonic spray coating lies in its unique atomization principle, which distinguishes it from traditional air spraying or high-pressure airless spraying. By generating high-frequency vibrations (20-180kHz) through a piezoelectric transducer, the technology atomizes coating materials into uniform droplets of 1-5 microns, which are then precisely deposited on the acrylic surface with the assistance of low-speed carrier gas. This gentle atomization process avoids the defects of uneven coating, sagging, and pinholes commonly seen in traditional methods, ensuring a smooth and dense wet film that forms a high-quality coating after curing.
Compared with conventional spraying techniques, ultrasonic spray coating offers remarkable benefits in material utilization and substrate protection. Without the need for high-speed airflow for atomization, it minimizes paint rebound and overspray, increasing material utilization to over 85%—far higher than the 30-50% of traditional processes. This is particularly cost-effective for high-value functional coatings such as wear-resistant resins. Additionally, the soft airflow prevents damage to the brittle acrylic substrate, preserving its surface flatness and optical transparency.
Achieving ideal coating effects on acrylic surfaces requires strict control of four key links. First, substrate pretreatment is essential to enhance coating adhesion. Acrylic surfaces must be cleaned with isopropanol or special cleaners to remove oil and dust, then activated by plasma or corona treatment to increase surface tension to over 40 dynes, ensuring tight bonding between the coating and substrate. Second, coating material selection must balance wear resistance and compatibility with acrylic, with common options including UV-curable wear-resistant resins (hardness 3-5H), silicone-modified coatings, and nano-ceramic composite coatings (hardness over 6H).
Process parameter setting and curing treatment directly determine coating performance. The atomization pressure is typically controlled at 0.1-0.3MPa, the paint feed rate at 0.5-5mL/min, and the spraying distance at 10-30cm, matching the nozzle movement speed of 50-200mm/s to ensure uniform coating thickness. For curing, UV-curable coatings are irradiated with 800-1200mJ/cm² UV lamps for 3-10 seconds, while thermosetting coatings are baked at 60-80℃ for 30-60 minutes to avoid acrylic deformation.
This technology has significantly expanded acrylic’s application boundaries. In high-end retail, hardened acrylic display stands are 60% lighter than glass with lower breakage rates. In electronics, it serves as touchscreen panels with both wear resistance and high transparency. As the technology advances, ultrasonic spray coating will further improve coating stability, driving the widespread application of acrylic in more high-end fields, combining functionality and aesthetics in a sustainable and efficient manner.
