Carbon Paper Coating

Carbon Paper Coating – Benchtop Coater – Cheersonic

Gas Diffusion Layers (GDL) are key components in various types of fuel cells, including Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM), Direct Methanol (DMFC) and Phosphoric Acid (PAFC) stacks as well as in other electrochemical devices such as electrolyzers. In fuel cells, this thin, porous sheet must provide high electrical and thermal conductivity and chemical / corrosion resistance, in addition to controlling the proper flow of reactant gases (hydrogen and air) and managing the water transport out of the membrane electrode assembly (MEA). The GDL serves as a connection bridge between the MEA and graphite plate. The main functions of GDL include the following:
• A gas diffused pathway from flow channels to the catalyst layer
• Help removes by-produced water outside of the catalyst layer and prevent flooding
• Keep some water on surface for conductivity through the membrane
• Heat transfer during cell operation
• Helps provide enough mechanical strength to hold the MEA from extension caused by water absorbency

Carbon Paper Coating - Benchtop Coater - Cheersonic

Carbon paper, as an excellent gas diffusion layer material, has good conductivity, corrosion resistance, and high mechanical strength, making it widely applicable in the field of fuel cells. As an advanced coating preparation technology, ultrasonic spraying technology can effectively improve the preparation efficiency and coating quality of carbon paper coatings. Cheersonic’s fuel cell catalyst coating systems are uniquely suited for these challenging applications by creating highly uniform, repeatable, and durable coatings. Using the company’s patented ultrasonic spray head technology, it can spray uniformly and efficiently on proton exchange membranes and gas diffusion layers.

  • Ultrasonic vibrations continuously break up agglomerated particles and keep them evenly dispersed; maximizing platinum utilization.
  • Corrosion-resistant titanium and stainless steel construction
  • The self-cleaning function of the ultrasonic nozzle prevents clogging.
  • The platform takes up less space.
  • 80% reduction in paint consumption
  • The particle diameter is optional which can more flexibly affect the through-hole property of the coating
Highly controllable spray that produces reliable, consistent results.
